Adventurous Boat Cruise Across the Lagos Lagoon. Beautiful Pictures from Lagos Lagoon

Destinations,  Featured

Lagos State is blessed with lots of rivers, lakes, bay, lagoon, ocean, seas and the majestic Atlantic. I have been on a boat several times this year and I have always wondered what it will feel like to do a boat cruise along the Lagos lagoon. I have always wanted to see the beauties of the Lagos Atlantic and document every piece of it. There are a couple of Islands in Lagos which includes Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki and Lagos Island, Ilashe, Inagbe etc and there are a couple of areas that share a boundary with the Lagos lagoon. Some of the popular areas are Apapa, Badagry, Ojo, Ajah, Lekki, Ikorodu, Iyana Oworo, Bariga, Yaba etc. I love anything water, nature, art and adventure and I have always dreamed of capturing the beautiful views from the Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic. So I decided to hire a speed boat from a jetty in Ikoyi and off we set. Hiring a boat in Lagos is usually billed per hour and the cost is usually very high. In my quest to capture the beauty of the Lagos Lagoon the cost does not matter. We set out from a jetty in Ikoyi. This trip was supposed to last for two hours to reach all the major hubs on the Lagos Lagoon and I can assure you it was worth it. We touched base at the following places Top Places on the Island Ikoyi Victoria Island Lagos Island Some Part of Lekki Apapa Inagbe Grand Resort Ilashe And some other places I don’t even know their names A day on the Lagos Lagoon This trip was an eye-opener and it gave a clearer view of Lagos Island, When you are on the water it is a different view entirely. You get to understand the position and the navigation of places more. It also gives a clearer view of how different places connect within the island. We touched down and passed through some major landmarks and some notable places on the Island. Some of these locations include:Five Cowrie Terminal, Ikoyi: It is a modern terminal with state of the art facility to change the game of water transportation and to serve as a major water terminal in Lagos. 1. Civic Centre: It is an event centre located along Ozumba Mbadiwe opposite the 1004 estate. 2. Oriental Hotel: This is one of the most exotic hotels in Lagos overseeing the Lekki Epe expressway in the front and the Lagoon at the back. Black Diamond Hotel: This beautiful structure is owned by Mobil which serves as a hotel for their staff and expatriates Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge: the Lekki Link bridge is an ultra-modern bridge that connects Lekki and Ikoyi Lagos Business District Marina Axis: This is Lagos Marina, a section of the Lagos business district overseeing the Lagos waterways. US Embassy: This United States embassy is located in Victoria Island but can be spotted from the Lagos lagoon The Nigerian naval Dock: We had a rare privilege to see the Nigerian naval docks where the Nigerian warships are parked The Nigerian Warships: We saw some of the Nigerian warships Oando Headquarters: There is a beautiful twin building along the Lagos coastline which is the Oando Headquarters in Victoria Island The Nigerian Ports: We also got a close view of the Nigerian ports from the waterside, It is one of the busiest seaports in Africa. Ship: We also got to see several ships coming to berth at the Lagos Port Third Mainland Bridge: We also sailed towards the third mainland bridge and got a lagoon view of the Third Mainland Bridge which is the longest bridge in West Africa and the second-longest in Africa measuring a 10.5 km in length. Carter bridge: This is another bridge that links Lagos Island and the MainlandNitel Tower: I also got a nice view of the Nitel Tower which is located on Broad Street, Lagos island The oil Rig: We also got a better view of the oil rig located in front of the lagoon opposite Marina 1004 Estates: From the lagoon, we also got to see the 1004 estates which are a block of unit flats numbering 1004 flats of two and three-bedroom flats. Oil tanks: We also got to see several oil tanks belonging to some of the biggest oil firms in Nigeria Vessels: We saw giant vessels some are as big as five to 10 storey building and It just makes you wonder how such giant vessels can float on water Dangote and Otedola Multi-Million dollar Yacht: Mansions Along the Lagoon Global warming is real I witnessed the effect of global warming in Lagos. Badagry is a quiet and beautiful town with lots of history and it is also the home of Gberefu Island Point of No return. The Point of No Return is the original slave route to an unknown destination which is usually Europe or American where they serve as slaves.  History of Gberefu island The history of Gberefu island can be dated as far back as 1473 when it was opened as a slave port. Ever since it’s a grand opening, the Point of No return witnessed the influx of thousands of slaves from Africa to different parts of Europe The Gberefu Island is about 5 minutes boat ride from the Badagry Marina which features some of the top tourist attractions within Badagry. The Gberefu Island also known as the Point of no return is an iconic island during the slave trade era. This Island witnessed slaves from different West African countries. A journey to the Point of no Return will bring you up to date with the history of what happened over 400 years ago. You will better understand the history behind slavery and gain more insights into how the slave trade business run. It will also help you appreciate freedom and see the wickedness of humanity towards humanity. Badagry is home to so many tourist destinations and historical sites which can be dated as far back as the days of the colonial and slave trade rule. Journey to the Point of No Return The Journey to the Point of No Return, Gberefu Island, Badagry starts with taking a boat ride from the Badagry Slave Port on the Badagry Marina. The boat ride from the Badagry Slave Port is less than a 5 minutes boat ride to the Gberefu Island port. From The Gberefu jetty, the hiking begins where you will do a fifteen to thirty minutes walk along the original slave route down to the Point of no Return. Along the route is the Attenuation well. This is one of the major attractions of Gberefu Island. The Slavery – The History of Slavery in Gberefu Island The Slave journey usually starts from the Vlekete Slave market where slaves are auctioned. Slaves are usually people that are kidnapped, captured, prisoners or spoils of wars. They are usually bargained and sold to slave masters who then sell them in exchange for guns, umbrella, mirror, canons, ceramic plates and jugs, porcelain, wine, brass, kettles, gin, alcohol  etc The Journey usually begins from the Badagry Vlekete Slave market to the Seriki Barracoon where they are kept till the slave masters return to buy more slaves. Once the slave masters arrive and an agreement has been reached, then they take a boat ride across the lagoon to Gberefu Island where they have to walk with heavy chains tied around their necks, waists and legs. This is usually the hardest part of the journey because you could have up to 100 slaves being tied together using a single chain and made to walk long distance. This is done to prevent them from escaping. On the journey to the Point of No Return Lies the attenuation well where they will be forced to take a quick drink. Attenuation Well – Another School of Thought This is usually the final drink before heading into the ship. Legend and history have it that the Attenuation well has magical powers that will make anyone lose their memories when they drink of it. A school of thought explained this is why it is usually difficult for them to revolt or fight the slave masters during the trip since they outnumbered the slave masters since they. Another School of thought claimed the water was probably drugged with a substance that made them inactive during the journey making them weak to even revolt against the slave masters. This is usually because ships could take as high as 700 slaves which are only controlled by about ten to twenty slave masters.  Whichever it is it doesn’t take out the fact that the slaves are hypnotized during the trip and then regain consciousness when they get to their final destination. Then they are taken to the Point of No Return where they are shipped off to an unknown destination. Once they get to the destination, they are traded and sold again to farmers and other people who buy them for various purposes. They ended up serving their masters for the rest of their lives. Tour to The Point of No Return Your visit to Badagry will not be complete without visiting the Point of No Return. The journey starts by getting to the Badagry roundabout you will see the Drummer Boy Statue. Drive to the Badagry Marina where the slave Port is located. Then you will take a three minutes boat ride to Gberefu jetty which leads to the Original Slave route. Along the original slave route, lies Attenuation well, which is still in existence today. You get a chance to see the well that has the power to make people lose their memory. After walking down the slave route,  you will see the third sign with the inscription, The Original slave route of the Point of No Return. Then you start hearing the splashing of water this means you are finally getting to the point of no return. OfadaBoy – Pan African Restaurant in the Heart of Surulere

Featured,  Food,  Restaurant

OfadaBoy is an indigenous African themed Restaurant located In Lagos, Nigeria, Surulere to be precise. Ofada Boy offers different signature Ofada (local rice) delicacies. The restaurant has a Yoruba traditional feel which you would almost mistake for an African King’s palace. Everything about Ofada Boy has a traditional feel from its ambience, menu, décor, food presentation, to the waiters speaks beauty and attention to details. The waiters are dressed in African prints also known as Ankara and Yoruba styled hats which gives you a royal welcome. It is often hard to find a restaurant in Lagos mainland with such a serene and beautiful environment with good and affordable food, aesthetics, Afrocentric swag all in one package. The Ofada boy meets all of these criteria and will definitely blow your mind. Ofada Boy is truly a beauty to behold in terms of its aesthetics, graffiti, furniture, ambience and the environment. Who Owns OfadaBoy? OfadaBoy is owned by Tobi Fletcher a graduate of Microbiology and an indigene of Ofada Town. He decided to follow his family genealogy and take after his grandfather business who was among the earliest farmers that started Ofada rice farming in Africa. The Ambience Ofada Boy is located in a quiet and serene environment in a very cool neighbourhood within Lagos. The ambience is beautiful and it comes in Yoruba styled, African themed settings offering beautifully carved wooden tables, chairs, mats curtains and arts. OfadaBoy is definitely one of the best restaurants in Lagos. It is located in an estate off Adeniran Ogunsanya. There are no signs or banners outside. It is a building with a two wooden gate that you could easily pass by without paying much attention to what is inside. These doors lead to one of the best restaurants on Lagos mainland. Once you step into the gate, you are ushered into an aisle of beautiful artificial grass walkway which leads straight into the OfadaBoy restaurant. OfadaBoy has two sections the outside Restaurant that can conveniently seat over 25 people and the inner section that can also accommodate Another 20 people The Food at Ofada Boy Ofada boy seems to have done good research because the sauce was not too spicy, the meats were tender, the rice was well cooked and doesn’t have the annoying unprocessed Ofada rice smell. I was quite impressed the Ofada doesn’t have that smell nor was the sauce spicy and the era of eating Ofada rice with stones is a thing of the past. Do not get carried away with the Ofada menu, they also offer other indigenous Nigerian foods. Apart from the foods, OfadaBoy is also known for its soups which includes White soups, Afang, Ewedu, Ogbono, egusi, Eforiro, Edikiankong, Gbegiri, Ofensala etc One unique thing about Ofada Boy is they also serve natural palm wine which tops the list of the drinks. Ofada Boy has three variant of palm wine which includes the Palmwine, Palmo and Palma. The Palmwine contain the Palmpine, Palmwine and Pineapple Palmo (Palm wine and orange) Palma (palm wine and apple) Palmwine About OfadaBoy Restaurant Ofada Boy offers a beautiful and aesthetic ambience. If you are a lover of good food, arts, culture and tradition,  you will be marvelled and impressed with the decorations both the interior and the exterior and everything Ofada has to offer. The windows are covered in mats giving it more of the traditional Royal feel. The La Campagne Tropica has something for you. If you are thinking of where to go in Lagos or Nigeria, this resort is the perfect place for you. My Experience at the La Campagne Tropicana I have been to the La Campagne Tropicana so many times. It was a lovely sunny Saturday and I decided to do La Campagne with some friends. We took off at Lekki Phase One and it was about an hour 30 minutes drive to La Campagne Tropicana. It is a straight drive on the Lekki Expressway until we made a right turn to the Lekki Free trade zone area. We passed through the Multi-billion dollar Dangote Refinery. We went all the way to the Newly constructed Lekki Deep Sea Port. Finally down to a coastal town called Ikegun. Ikegun is a quiet town located at Ibeju Lekki, an area of Lagos State just after the Dangote refinery. On entering the La Campagne Tropicana, we booked our tickets at the Resorts reception which is located outside the gates of the resort. On entering we were blown away by the African Inspired artworks and the African-themed settings. There are facilities for everything like games, fun, adventure etc Beautiful Resort in the Heart of Lagos Everything about La Campagne is African-inspired, from the ambience to the cottages, and even the cabanas. You will be welcomed in the traditional Yoruba way of greeting, while at it, the ever-ready waitresses are on stand-by to welcome you with a cup of palm wine. It won’t come in fancy cups like the beers from the local bar. It is served in a local calabash or cups. There are lots of African Inspired prints on display for sale. Feel free to go home with a souvenir. You will almost mistake it for the palace of a Traditional Nigerian King. They will brief you about the resort, the dos and don’ts, the rates etc. Then you are ushered into the main entrance. The resort also features some non-wildlife animals like monkey and goose who move around freely within the resort. They are harmless creatures looking for something to eat. La Campagne Tropicana Has its own Currency One of the most interesting part for me at the resort is that it has its own currency known as Pere. We got about ten Thousand Pere. One pere is equivalent to 1 naira. So to trade within the resort you will have to use Pere. We then headed straight to the gate. There were security men at the post who confirmed our tickets and checked us into the Resort shuttles that was already waiting to take us on one of the best moments of our lives. The view was amazing, this got to be one of the most amazing views I have seen in my entire life. A mixture of palm fronds and coconut trees is systematically arranged in sync gives the beach a lovely view. Then gradually as we move closer we began to hear the sounds of the turbulent waves. This has got to be the cleanest beach in Nigeria. They also claimed to have the longest ool in the world. Note There is no P in ool, the ool is a snake-like pool that stretches down the plain. They also boast of the longest pool on a beach. Fun Things To Do At La Campagne Tropicana While at the La Campagne, you will hardly run out of things to do. Here are things to do at the resort. Location of the La Campagne Tropicana La Campagne Tropicana Address: Ikegun, Ibeju-Lekki Area, Off Lekki/Epe Expressway,
