Alhaja Kudirat Abiola Park – Kudirat Abiola Mytyr of our Democracy The kudirat Abiola Park was built to commemorate and serve as a remembrance for her impact on the struggles and fight for Democracy. However, the struggle began when her husband late Moshood Abiola the winner of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election was arrested after the election was annulled by the then Nigeria Military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida. The Nigerian Government held Abiola till he died in prison fighting for his mandate. The Kudirat Abiola Memorial Park The Alhaja Kudirat Abiola Park is a memorial park dedicated to the late heroin for her fight for democracy. This represents the struggle and victory of Democracy. The Kudirat Abiola Park is a reminder of Nigeria’s struggle for Democracy. Located along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. About Kudirat Abiola Alhaja Kudirat Abiola was born in 1951 in Zaria, Nothern part of Nigeria. She attended the Muslim Girls School, Ijebu Ode Ogun State, the western part of Nigeria. She got married to MKO Abiola in 1972 at the age of 21. She was the second wife of Moshood Abiola and they had 7 children together. She was assassinated on the Lagos Ibadan expressway while fighting for the release of her husband and the struggle for democracy. However, before her death, she launched Radio Democracy to campaign against Military rule and the fight and struggle for democracy. The radio has been renamed after her, Radio Kudirat. There were claims that the radio was backed and sponsored by the American, British, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian governments. She was murdered on 4th June 1996 on orders of the then Military government led by General Sanni Abacha. Kudirat Abiola – Fight for Democracy Firstly, she mobilized women from different spheres of life such as market women, students, activists and human rights fighters from all over Nigeria to stand against the Military government. She was well respected by the populace and a big threat to the Government. The struggle began after her husband who won the 1993 Nigerian Presidential election was detained by the then Nigeria Military Government after the election was annulled.
