Tuberculosis Test in Lagos for UK Embassy: A Guide for Applicants

Blog

If you’re planning to apply for a visa to the UK and you’re in Lagos, it’s important to be aware of the tuberculosis (TB) testing requirements set by the UK Embassy. This article serves as a comprehensive guide for applicants, outlining the process of getting a TB test in Lagos and ensuring that you meet the necessary criteria for your visa application. Are you concerned about tuberculosis and its prevalence in Lagos? It’s crucial to understand the importance of early detection and treatment of tuberculosis to mitigate its impact on the population. In this article, we’ll delve into the various aspects of tuberculosis testing in Lagos, discussing its significance, available testing methods, and the steps to take if diagnosed. Let’s embark on this informative journey to learn how Lagos is addressing tuberculosis through testing and awareness. Introduction Tuberculosis remains a significant public health concern globally, and Lagos is no exception. With its dense population and urban setting, the city faces unique challenges in controlling the spread of this airborne disease. Early detection through effective testing is crucial to manage tuberculosis effectively and prevent its escalation. Understanding Tuberculosis Tuberculosis, commonly referred to as TB, is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily affects the lungs but can also target other parts of the body. The disease spreads through the air when an infected individual coughs or sneezes, releasing bacteria-containing droplets into the atmosphere. Prevalence in Lagos Lagos, as one of the most populous cities in Africa, experiences a higher incidence of tuberculosis compared to less densely populated areas. Factors such as limited access to healthcare, crowded living conditions, and inadequate sanitation contribute to the spread of the disease. The Importance of Testing Early detection of tuberculosis is vital for several reasons. It allows for prompt treatment initiation, reducing the risk of transmission to others. Additionally, timely diagnosis improves the chances of successful treatment outcomes and minimizes the development of drug-resistant strains. Types of Tuberculosis Tests Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) TST, commonly known as the Mantoux test, involves injecting a small amount of tuberculin under the skin. A positive reaction indicates exposure to the TB bacteria, but it cannot distinguish between latent infection and active disease. Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) IGRAs measure the release of interferon-gamma by white blood cells in response to TB proteins. These tests are more specific than TST and are less likely to be triggered by the BCG vaccine. Chest X-rays Chest X-rays can reveal abnormalities in the lungs caused by tuberculosis. While they don’t provide a definitive diagnosis, they are valuable tools for initial screening. Molecular Tests (Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests) Molecular tests detect the genetic material of the TB bacteria in sputum samples. They are faster than traditional culture tests and can identify drug-resistant strains. Access to Testing Centers Lagos has established various testing centers to provide accessible tuberculosis testing services. These centers are strategically located across the city to ensure that residents can undergo testing without undue inconvenience. Steps to Get Tested Getting tested for tuberculosis in Lagos is a straightforward process. Visit a nearby testing center, where healthcare professionals will guide you through the required procedures. Testing is usually painless and quick. Diagnosis and Next Steps If your test results are positive, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have active TB. Further tests, including sputum cultures, will be conducted to confirm the diagnosis. If diagnosed with TB, it’s essential to follow the prescribed treatment regimen diligently. Public Awareness and Education Raising public awareness about tuberculosis is paramount. Knowing the symptoms, modes of transmission, and preventive measures can help curb the disease’s spread. Educational campaigns and community outreach programs play a pivotal role in this endeavor. Treatment and Support TB is curable, and treatment typically involves a combination of antibiotics taken over several months. Adequate nutrition and emotional support are crucial during this period. Preventive Measures To prevent tuberculosis, it’s important to maintain good respiratory hygiene, avoid close contact with infected individuals, and ensure adequate ventilation in living spaces. The Role of Government The Lagos state government actively participates in tuberculosis control programs by providing funding, infrastructure, and resources for testing, treatment, and public education. Community Engagement Communities also play a significant role in tackling tuberculosis. By promoting a culture of health, encouraging early testing, and supporting affected individuals, communities contribute to disease prevention. Challenges in Tuberculosis Control Challenges such as stigma associated with the disease, limited access to healthcare in certain areas, and the emergence of drug-resistant strains hinder effective tuberculosis control in Lagos. Conclusion Tuberculosis testing is a cornerstone in the battle against this infectious disease. By identifying cases early, providing proper treatment, and raising awareness, Lagos can move closer to its goal of eradicating tuberculosis. UK Visa Tuberculosis Testing As part of the UK’s immigration process, applicants from certain countries, including Nigeria, are required to undergo tuberculosis testing to ensure public health and safety within the UK. If you’re applying for a visa to the UK from Lagos, understanding the TB testing requirements and procedure is crucial to avoid delays or issues with your application. Understanding TB Testing for UK Visa Tuberculosis is a contagious disease, and the UK government has implemented measures to prevent its spread through immigration. Applicants from countries with higher TB prevalence, including Nigeria, are required to take a TB test before obtaining a visa. Who Needs to Take the TB Test Applicants who are planning to stay in the UK for more than six months and are resident in Lagos or other areas with high TB incidence need to take the TB test. This requirement applies to individuals aged 11 and older. Selecting Approved Clinics The UK Embassy has a list of approved clinics and healthcare centers in Lagos where you can take the TB test. What Nigerians Travelling to Dubai Through Cotonou Go Through

Blog,  Featured,  Travel Tips

It is no more news that for some months, Nigerians can not travel to Dubai directly from Nigeria. This because of the issues between Emirate Airline, the Nigerian and the UAE government.  In the last few months, travelling to Dubai from Nigeria which used to be very easy has all of a sudden become a nightmare. To go on this trip, you will have to go through other countries and one of the easiest being Ghana and the Republic of Benin. This is because the two countries are our closest neighbours. I have read several stories about different issues people have had in the Republic of Benin and Ghana. One of the popular stories was shared by Derende here https://www.nairaland.com/6544747/30-days-sojourn-through-cotonou  Sometimes this month, A client contacted me to help him process a three months Dubai visa and also to plan his itinerary to Dubai via Benin republic. I processed the Dubai visa, booked the flight, then we headed straight to the Republic of Benin.   The Journey To cut a long story short, on his travel date, we got to Cotonou Cadjehoun Airport. The Benin Airport is less rowdy, less congested and looking well maintained. That was when I got the shocks of my life. Firstly, the majority of the people going to Dubai from the Cotonou Cadjehoun Airport were Nigerians.  As we were driving into the car park, I realize most of the people doing bureau de change are Nigerians. We changed some money and headed straight to the departure.  I met lots of Nigerians at the waiting area. You will almost think it is another branch of Murtala Muhammed International airport located in Lagos. Then the worst happened, as we were heading in, we saw 4 Nigerians coming out, at first I thought they were coming back. Only to get to the queue and we were told they were denied boarding. I got more curious, on further investigation, I later got to know that they backdated the date they got in, not knowing that The republic of Benin had changed their stamp. Unfortunate for them, they backdated with the new stamp.  While at the Airport, I also saw another Nigerian who was arrested at the airport because he was trying to board with a fake visa. I can not believe someone would try to do that. I think the person he paid gave him a fake visa. He got locked up for some days. This is really painful.    Then the last set of Nigerians that were rejected either have damaged passports or International passport with a picture that is not clear. The last sets of Nigerians that got denied were people who got late to the checking point.  Here are the major reasons why you could get denied boarding at the Cotonou Airport.  Also Read Understanding the Nigerian and the Benin Republic Currency Reasons Why People Were Rejected Damaged passport: Any passport with stains, a picture that is not clear, damaged on any part of the data page is automatic rejection. Please avoid any form of damage to your passport. Most of the people were travelling with the same passport in Nigeria without any issue. Someone said they are doing it to frustrate Nigerians. LOL this I cant verify yet. Fake visa: Please always try to confirm the validity of your passport.  Fake stamp: Please ensure you always stamp at the border, do not pay touts to stamp for you.   Backdated stamp: YOu are supposed to spend 2 weeks minimum at the Cotonou Airport before you are allowed to travel.  Expired covid 19 test: Please ensure you do your Covid 19 test on time so you can get the result on time.  Things to note when visiting Dubai through the Republic of Benin  1. you must spend a minimum of 2 weeks in the Republic of Benin  2. To be on the safe side, Make sure you stamp in Seme border rather than Idiroko border, I heard so many people are having issues at Idiroko when they arrive in Dubai.   3. Confirm your Visa validity online.   4. Get to the airport at least three hours before your flight  5. Do a VIP covid 19 test. You will get your result the same day.   6. If you can get an agent that is familiar with the route to help you out. It will save you lots of money in the long run. 7. Stay in a hotel that is not far from the airport 8. Get familiar with the terrain and an English speaking cab driver. It will save you lots of headache. Please ensure you follow all Covid 19 protocols, please try to do the right thing because once you are caught they will ensure you face the law. Have you had a similar experience? Please share below.

Differences between the different bodies of water in the World

Blog

There are different types of water around the world that makes up the bodies of water. Water makes up about 71 per cent of the earth surface. No wonder water is one of the most important natural resources on earth. Just in case you are wondering what I mean by water body. Water bodies refer to the aqua system that supplies us with water and fills more than two-third of the universe. There are different types of water bodies that make up our aqua system. No wonder it is one of the most abundant natural resources. Water is one of the few substances that can exist in the Solid (ice, snow), liquid (water), gaseous (steam) state. Bodies of Water A body of water or waterbody is an accumulation of water that could either be natural or artificial. Other meaning of a water body could be any place on earth with a significant collection of water. A body of water is a collection of water. It could exist in different forms. These are the bodies of water that make up our ecosystem. Major bodies of water / Types of bodies of water These are some of the major bodies of water around the world. All over the world, there are different bodies of water. Some of these water bodies are stationary, some are moving water while others collect and hold water. There are several bodies of water which can be found at the different surface of the earth. These different water bodies make up our aqua ecosystem. Cove A cove is a body of water surrounded by land. A cove is similar to a bay, the difference is it is smaller than a bay. Also, it usually has a very narrow entrance. The entire cove is circular or oval. Pond Ponds are smaller than lakes. Just like lakes, ponds are also a body of water surrounded by land. A Pond is filled with fresh water which can either be natural or artificial. A Pond may either be made up of freshwater or saltwater. They are often static water. They are shallow water. Even though pond and lakes have similarities, they are can be distinguished by their sizes. Lake Lake is mostly a body of fresh water surrounded by land. The only difference between a lake and a pond is that lakes are bigger in sizes than ponds. Lakes are a static form of water that does not flow. In some cases, the only flow of water is a river that flows into the lake. Natural lakes exist in some areas while some are also artificially built. They are used as a reservoir for agricultural and industrial use. Lakes are also used for aesthetics and recreational use in estates and parks. Streams Streams are water in motion, however, they are smaller compared to a river. A Stream is generally shallow compared to rivers. A stream is a small and narrow river that flows through a plain. Rivers Rivers on the other hand are a mighty body of moving water. It is natural flowing water that either flows into a lake, ocean, other rivers, the sea or a dead end. Rivers are always flowing and moving water. Sometimes they can be small as a lake or large as a sea. Though rivers and streams are popular within human settlements. They only make less than 1% of the landmass. It has been scientifically proven that rivers and steams only make about 0.1 per cent of the entire world. Rivers are made up of fresh water. This is the major reason why most human settlements are built around rivers. Rivers serve as a source of water both for industrial and household use. Glacier Glaciers are water in the solid-state. They are frozen water which are thousands or million years old and they make up ten per cent of the earth’s surface. A glacial is a huge collection of a frozen river that moves slowly due to its frozen state. Ocean The ocean is the largest body of water which makes up the majority of the water body on earth. Most of the other water bodies usually find their ways into the ocean. This is the mother of all the water bodies. It makes a huge percentage of the earth. It is the largest, the biggest and it connects the different major part of the earth. Many people usually use the ocean and sea interchangeably, however they are different. The sea is a body of water partly or fully enclosed by the land. The ocean is one of the major bodies of water connecting the whole world. The ocean covers about 71 per cent of the earth and it makes up about 97 per cent of the water on earth. The Ocean comes in different forms and there are 5 oceans on the surface of the earth.PacificAtlanticIndian OceanSouthern OceanArctic Ocean Lagoon A lagoon is a body of water separated from a larger body of water by either a narrow island, reefs, a natural barrier or a peninsula. Lagoon sometimes can be confused with a river. Sea The seas are part of the ocean in the general sense, they are not different from the ocean. They are part of the ocean closest to the land. There is no difference between seas and oceans. Sea is the part of the ocean that is surrounded by land. They are often not as large or as deep as the ocean. They are greatMediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, South China Sea, etc. Bay Bay is a collection of water with land surrounding on three sides. A bay usually surrounded by large land forming a curve or a c shape. It however stretches into a larger body of water. Canal This is an artificial waterway that flows into lakes, rivers or seas. Delta Delta is the point where a river flows into a sea, ocean etc Creek This is attributed to a narrow stream much smaller than a river, it is also flowing. It is

Oluwo Retail market was commissioned on 10th of November 1989 by Mr. M.A Olagbaiye the sole Administrator of Epe Local Government for the Lagos State Market Development Board. Epe Town is a very peaceful town. Since it is a coastal region, fishing is one of the major occupations in the region. No wonder, the biggest fish market in Lagos is situated in that region.Epe has a lot to offer, experience nature and enjoy the beauty Epe has to offer. Dubai and Nigeria in Perspective – How Leadership Has Affected The Two Nations

Blog

I must admit, this lockdown had a toll on me and has made me vulnerable for a while in the sense that, I have been thinking more about Nigeria and it has made me seen the worst of the worst Nigeria has to offer. Nigerian issue is one thing I have always avoided, I have trained my mind to see the best in Nigeria. I have been doing my best trying not to let the corruptible system get to me. I have been working double hard trying not to let the corruption and the high level of incompetence within the system get to me. But with the recent activities happening within the last few days has got me thinking, this is something I have been avoiding for a long time. But I guess the lockdown has its ups and down and boredom breeds other unforeseen circumstances. One thing I can tell you is, every Nigerian seems to know the problem of Nigeria, in fact, we all always have ready-made brilliant solutions to the problems of this country, but for some reasons best known to us, we are not just ready to do the right thing. With the latest news coming out of Nigeria I can’t help it, they got to me deeplya. USA returned 300 Million Dollars Abacha loot, So far they have been able to recover over $4.6 billion From Abacha alone, and there are still more. So that means, as at 1998, Abacha was already a billionaire in Dollars from Nigeria loot. Before then other military rulers had run Nigeria dry and their loots haven’t been recovered till date.b. Nigeria has less than 500 ventilators in the entire country. that means more than half of it might not be working and some might have been stolen or never supplied.c. How some of our leaders defiled the lockdown procedure which led to the global spread of the virus and nobody held anybody responsible for those actions.d. And many more stories from the length and breadth of the nation.e. How Nigeria didn’t have money and resources to fight the pandemic and how money was donated and we still couldn’t get ventilators. All this news really got to me thinking and wondering whats the fate of a Nigerian citizen. So in other to get my mind preoccupied, I decided to travel the world via the internet. So for some reasons, I have been researching about Dubai, maybe because I was bored or I had planned to visit Dubai before this Pandemic, I still plan to visit once this pandemic is over. So if you’d like us to go together, do not hesitate to send a message. So I decided to research the places I will visit in Dubai. I got so excited I decided to write about the beautiful places to visit in Dubai once this lockdown is over. See the post here.Halfway through my writeup, I felt teary, I was almost weeping viewing the beautiful images of this modern city. I am hardly emotional. I read how the Dubai visionary leadership have contributed immensely to the development of this great city and one thought keep coming through my mind, I kept asking what have we done to deserve the kinds of Leaderships we have in Nigeria?I decided to take a break, I can’t be caught crying. I decided to compare this great city with the giant of Africa. Similarities Between Nigeria and Dubai (UAE) They are both colonized by Great Britain They both have petroleum They are both a religious country Where Nigeria has more advantages Dubai doesn’t have fertile lands (it’s located in the desert) Nigeria is blessed with fertile lands Dubai does not have natural rivers, lakes, streams etc everything they have is almost man-made, Nigeria has natural seas, oceans, rivers, lakes, lagoons etc Dubai barely experience rain out of the 365 days, Dubai experience less than 25 days of rain whereas in Nigeria alone this year, there is a report that there will be over 260 days of rain Dubai does not have other major raw materials most of them are imported, Nigeria have virtually every raw materials you can imagine on earth that we don’t even know what to do with them. Dubai is located in the Desert with a crazy temperature, Nigeria has a moderate temperature. Nigeria got her independence in 1960, Dubai got hers in 1971 Dubai built her first airport in 1960, Nigeria built its first Airport (Mallam Aminu Kano Internationa Airport) in 1922 and it started operations in 1936. See lists of Airports in Nigeria Oil was discovered in Dubai in 1958 while Oil was discovered in Nigeria in 1956 Nigeria started drilling oil by 1958 while Dubai started drilling and sold its first oil in 1960 Dubai is not even a state, Its, not a country it’s a city within UAE, Nigeria, on the other hand, is a country which is supposed to be more powerful than a city. Dubai city covers an area that’s just about 4,110km2 while Nigeria covers an area of 923,768km2 Ten Things Dubai has Done far better than Nigeria They built the tallest building in the world in just 5 years while in Nigeria we are struggling to finish the construction of Lagos Ibadan expressway since Obasanjo left office since 2007 They made man-made rivers, lakes, canals etc in Nigeria we have these things naturally and we can’t even maintain them. Nigeria has just a few functional seaports, now Dubai that doesn’t have these natural amenities built world-class man-made harbours Dubai a city has three functional seaports while Nigeria a country with 36 states has just about seven seaports with just about three working at full capacity Dubai does not have natural water bodies and they have been able to build rivers, streams etc while the Nigerian water corporation is struggling to supply 24 hours water supply. Dubai port of Jebel Ali is the largest port in the middle east and it was built from scratch, it
