Kyushu is a lush green island and the gateway to the Okinawa islands. Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Beppu and Kagoshima are all well worth the visit. You can catch a ferry from Tokyo taking 36 hours and get right off the beaten track. Not many tourists are on the ferry’s more like ocean liners and make a change to the fast pace life of traveling. Beppu is a must see and one of the best little spots in Japan. With a choice of Onsen resorts with thermal muds, hot sand, other herbal treatments, it’s gotta be good for you. You can get here via a train from Nagasaki to Kumamoto, then take the Shinkansen to Kagoshima. Kagoshima is another little secret where onsen’s are the rage right next to an active volcano.
